Let's Talk About Hair

While I was home for Spring Break, I had to opportunity to ask my hair stylist some questions about hair. Hair is part of beauty and fashion. I know that whenever I have bad hair days, I am constantly wondering if people are looking at my hair and thinking about how bad it looks. I become very conscious about it, and always worry about what to do with my hair, granted I have curly hair so sometimes it can be very frustrating.

Anyway moving on... I asked some general questions about hair care so you can gather some information and possibly take it into consideration for your own hair!

JN: What shampoo and conditioner do you recommend that is affordable and will not be drying to the hair?

Jenna: Redken. It is an awesome shampoo and conditioner. The shampoo cost around $17.00 and the conditioner $19.00. There are different kinds of shampoos and conditioner for different kinds of hair. I think it is the best for the price point. Other shampoo and conditioner brands are, All Soft and L'Oreal Professionnel (not drugstore L'Oreal Paris).

JN: What can someone do if they want to keep their hair looking fresh between washes?

Jenna: Buy dry shampoo, there are so many out there. Redken Pillow Proof is great. Also you can touch up with a blow dryer or hair straightener in between.

JN: How often do you recommend someone to wash their hair?

Jenna: Once or Twice a week. When you wash your hair everyday, your hair produces more oil.  You are stripping it from the natural oil it had already produced, so a signal is sent saying more oil needs to be made.

JN: What is the best way to take care of curly hair?

Jenna: Keep it well conditioned. Curly hair tends to be dryer by nature. Use a heavy conditioner and also wear your curls! The less the curls are straightened the better they tend to look. Make sure to get a trim every 6–8 weeks.

JN: What is your absolute must have hair product?

Jenna: Mythic Oil by L'Oreal Professionnel. This product can reverse breakage. I have had clients with breakage and I use this in the hair and the next time I see them, their hair looks so healthy and there is barely any breakage left. It is amazing!

JN: Is there a way yo keep scalp from flaking?

Jenna: People with curly or thick hair tend to have a flaker scalp. This can be caused by keeping wet hair in a bun or ponytail for long periods of time, not allowing the scalp to fully dry. Coconut Oil and Lavender Oil are great natural ways to prevent the scalp from flaking as much. It is good for the skin too!

JN: How often should someone get a trim?

Jenna: If they have short hair 4–6 weeks just to keep the shape of hair. Long hair 6–10 weeks.

JN: What hair oil do you recommend that will not leave hair feeling/ looking greasy after day?

Jenna: I really like the La Brasiliana Tre Define and Shine. That is the one I use for your hair!

JN: What type of hair mask do you think is the most beneficial for the hair?

Jenna: L'Oreal Intense Repair. It is the most conditioning for the hair and it includes a small amount of their conditioning treatment in every one of their mask. It helps to fill bonds in broken hair. I like to swap my regular conditioner for this mask. It can be used every time you wash your hair. I wouldn't recommend for people with extremely fine hair to use this mask as a replacement conditioner.

A huge Thank You to Jenna for allowing me to ask questions about hair!

I hope you all learned something new and will try something new!

Olive Green Smokey Eye

I loved how this olive green smokey eye look came out so I decided to share it YAY! Since spring is here (but it is still very cold) you can probably wear this look a couple of times before pastels and pretty pinks are in and dark bold colors are out!

I used the peach/tan color from my NYX Love in Paris Palette in Madeleines And Macaroons as my transition color in my crease first. Next I applied a taupe/brown color, I used a shadow from Morphe Brushes which unfortunately is not sold anymore, but Moondust by Makeup Geek would work too. You want to make sure the crease color is really blended because you do not want any harsh lines. Using my finger, I applied the L'Oreal Infallible Eyeshadow in Golden Emerald to my lid. By using your finger, the color pay off is better. If you don't want to use your fingers you can use a flat brush and some primer to help the color to be more bold and last all day. In my inner corner and tear duct area I usedBling by Makeup Geek. Bling is a beautiful highlight shade and is perfect for the inner corners. I brought the taupe/brown color to my lower lash line and blended it out. Using the New York Color Liquid Eyeliner , I drew a small wing, and with the black Chanel    liner, I lined my waterline. For lashes I used  Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara. I only applied some chapstick to my lips and TA DA DONE!

If you were wondering... I used Mac Blush in Dainty and Laura Mercier Highlight 01  to achieve a healthy looking glow.

If you recreate this look tag me #Jadanicola I would love to see what you all come up with!

My Recent Purchases!

I hadn't bought products or clothing in a while so when I did I could not contain my excitement. I want to show you the items I have purchased recently.

As a blogger, I am constantly coming up with ideas for post, makeup looks, or outfits. It is nice to have a good journal to keep all my notes together. I bought this leather notebook from Staple's. It was on sale for $6, SCORE! It is always great to search through the sale section before hand because sometimes you find awesome items on sale. Who doesn't like to save money?

The sunglass are by Cole Haan. I actually bought them over the summer but lost them since August. Six months without my favorite sunglasses was a struggle, I gave up the search. When I arrived home for spring break, my brother found them in my car. Even though they are not new, they are new to me... Again.

I purchased this sweater about a month ago. On sale too! It is by Kensie. I love how it has some embellishments making the sweater not look like a regular tan sweater. When I wore it, I paired it with grey colored skinny jeans and brown riding boots. Since the sweater already has some bling to it, you do not have a add any accessories.

This La- Brasiliana Dieci hair treatment  is my favorite. I like to use it after I wash my hair. I have curly hair so it is important to keep my hair conditioned. All I can say is that it is amazing and leaves my hair feeling soft.

I loved my L'Oreal Infallible eyeshadow in Iced Latte so much, I wanted to buy some more. I purchased Golden Emerald , a beautiful olive green shade, and  Liquid Diamond, a graphite color perfect for a smokey eye. If you haven't bought at least one of these shadows then you are missing out. They are easy to use and very creamy. You can purchase these eyeshadows at Target, Ulta, or any other store selling L'Oreal cosmetics.

From top to bottom

These Urban Decay eyeshadows are so gorgeous. I purchased Solstice a pink eyeshadow that reflects greenish-teal glitter. It is seriously the prettiest eyeshadow that I own. I also purchased X, a peach color with a hint of gold. This eyeshadow color is perfect for an easy Spring look.

Aren't these eyeshadows AMAZING?!

Lastly, I purchased a Mac Lipstick in Pink Pearl Pop. It is the bottom swatch. This pink color is girly and perfect for Spring and Summer. It is a cremesheen so it is a little glossy. (Sorry the camera did not pick up the gloss).

The first swatch is Tarte Amazonian Butter Lipstick in Coral Blossom. My wonderful cousin actually bought this for me for Christmas. This is another Spring and Summer color that I wanted to show you. This lipstick smells like mint and has a cooling affect on the lips. I love it! Thank you Reilly!

These are all the items purchased between January and March! If you have products you think I should try, let me know in the comments below.

Winter to Spring Transitional Outfit

Since it is still not exactly warm outside, it can be difficult to know what to wear from day to day. The transition from Winter to Spring can be a tad bit annoying when the weather is warm one day, and cold/ windy the next.

I decided to show you what kind of outfit you can create using pieces in your closet that is easy and will work best with whatever the weather decides to be.

One piece of clothing in my closet that I have been loving during the winter is this faux fur vest. Since it is a neutral color it is easy to pair with any color, and most outfits. It has the ability to add style, comfort, and warmth, making it easy to wear in the transitioning weather.  Underneath the vest I am wearing a  thin turtle neck shirt, with a black scarf. I paired this look with blue skinny jeans and black ankle boots.

Golden Eyeshadow Look

Happy Tuesday Ladies!

I have created this simple  beautiful golden eyeshadow look using one of the ColourPop eyeshadows. If you haven't seen already, I swathed some of the ColourPop eyeshadows I recently purchased a couple weeks ago.

This look is perfect for a date night, going out, or everyday glam!

Products Used:

Milani Bella Eyes Gel Powder Eyeshadow in Bella Sand – This eyeshadow can be purchased in drugstores that carry Milani products such as Walgreens and Walmart.

ColourPop Eyeshadow in Get Lucky

Revlon Colorstay 12 Hour Eye Shadow – This is an older palette so it is no longer sold in stores. If you do not have this palette you can use a brown shadow such as Frappe by Makeup Geek or a more berry toned shadow such as Last Dance by Makeup Geek.

NYC Liquid Eyeliner in 887 Black – Can be purchased from drugstores that sell NYC products.

Chanel Stylo Yeux Waterproof Eyeliner in Noir Intense #88

Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara

First, I used the Milani eyeshadow only on the lid as my base shadow. It has some shimmer so you don't want to apply too much. I used the darkest shade from the Revlon Colorstay palette in my crease. I generally would use a transition shade in my crease to allow the darker shade to blend smoothly into the crease, but I didn't this time. When working with dark colors, you want to make sure you really blend it well into the crease so there are no harsh lines and the shadow looks even. I brought the crease shadow down to my under eye lash line, to create a subtle smokey effect and to make the eyeshadow look more cohesive. I finished the eyeshadow look by placing ColourPop Get Lucky Eyeshadow to the lid. Get Lucky is such a beautiful gold shade! I love it.

I used the NYC Liquid Eyeliner to create a winged line. You can create whatever winged liner shape that works best for your eye shape. I have hooded eyelids so I can't always create a thick winged liner because it can take away from the eyeshadow. For my bottom waterline I used the Chanel Waterproof eyeliner. This liner is my favorite for my water line. It is a very intense and thick black. Lastly, to complete the look I used Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara on my eyelashes. To make this look more glam you can wear false lashes! I recommend Velour Whispie Sweet Nothings Lashes

This eye look would be great paired with a nude lip or even a dark berry lip.

If you recreate this look tag me in your photo using the hashtag #jadanicola I would love to see your recreations!

Handbags, Yes Please!

Whenever I go shopping, I have to stop and browse through all the handbags. I can't help it, I am a handbag lover. Handbags complete outfits. I could be wearing leggings and a chunky sweater just to run errands and still feel put together because I have a great handbag on my arm.

I have gathered some of my favorite spring handbags that I would love to have in my closet. Most of these handbags are on sale from Shopbop and Nordstrom so definitely take advantage  of that!

I had to include this GORGEOUS Fendi Leather Shopper!

Aren't all of these bags perfect for spring? Shop away!
