Let's Talk About Hair

While I was home for Spring Break, I had to opportunity to ask my hair stylist some questions about hair. Hair is part of beauty and fashion. I know that whenever I have bad hair days, I am constantly wondering if people are looking at my hair and thinking about how bad it looks. I become very conscious about it, and always worry about what to do with my hair, granted I have curly hair so sometimes it can be very frustrating.

Anyway moving on... I asked some general questions about hair care so you can gather some information and possibly take it into consideration for your own hair!

LET'S GET STARTED!!

JN: What shampoo and conditioner do you recommend that is affordable and will not be drying to the hair?

Jenna: Redken. It is an awesome shampoo and conditioner. The shampoo cost around $17.00 and the conditioner $19.00. There are different kinds of shampoos and conditioner for different kinds of hair. I think it is the best for the price point. Other shampoo and conditioner brands are, All Soft and L'Oreal Professionnel (not drugstore L'Oreal Paris).

JN: What can someone do if they want to keep their hair looking fresh between washes?

Jenna: Buy dry shampoo, there are so many out there. Redken Pillow Proof is great. Also you can touch up with a blow dryer or hair straightener in between.

JN: How often do you recommend someone to wash their hair?

Jenna: Once or Twice a week. When you wash your hair everyday, your hair produces more oil.  You are stripping it from the natural oil it had already produced, so a signal is sent saying more oil needs to be made.

JN: What is the best way to take care of curly hair?

Jenna: Keep it well conditioned. Curly hair tends to be dryer by nature. Use a heavy conditioner and also wear your curls! The less the curls are straightened the better they tend to look. Make sure to get a trim every 6–8 weeks.

JN: What is your absolute must have hair product?

Jenna: Mythic Oil by L'Oreal Professionnel. This product can reverse breakage. I have had clients with breakage and I use this in the hair and the next time I see them, their hair looks so healthy and there is barely any breakage left. It is amazing!

JN: Is there a way yo keep scalp from flaking?

Jenna: People with curly or thick hair tend to have a flaker scalp. This can be caused by keeping wet hair in a bun or ponytail for long periods of time, not allowing the scalp to fully dry. Coconut Oil and Lavender Oil are great natural ways to prevent the scalp from flaking as much. It is good for the skin too!

JN: How often should someone get a trim?

Jenna: If they have short hair 4–6 weeks just to keep the shape of hair. Long hair 6–10 weeks.

JN: What hair oil do you recommend that will not leave hair feeling/ looking greasy after day?

Jenna: I really like the La Brasiliana Tre Define and Shine. That is the one I use for your hair!

JN: What type of hair mask do you think is the most beneficial for the hair?

Jenna: L'Oreal Intense Repair. It is the most conditioning for the hair and it includes a small amount of their conditioning treatment in every one of their mask. It helps to fill bonds in broken hair. I like to swap my regular conditioner for this mask. It can be used every time you wash your hair. I wouldn't recommend for people with extremely fine hair to use this mask as a replacement conditioner.

A huge Thank You to Jenna for allowing me to ask questions about hair!

I hope you all learned something new and will try something new!
